Come to think of it – since Norms don’t have ears, how WAS she wearing the pearl earring? (Sorry to be so pedantically difficult.)
I admire your attention to detail! The Norms’ skin is quite porous. They can take on board all level of insertions like earrings which their skin then grips tightly. Hence the ability to wear the pearl earring. This is similarly how they would play a woodwind instrument for example or smoke a pipe (for which they are quite partial)
