This is a blog about creative passion, about an escape to the aesthetic, and about an appreciation of the joie de vivre. It attempts to normalise the greater joys of living, and to share and explore the beauty all around us, and in so doing make beauty, rather than monotony, the daily norm. It is both an outlet for, and an expression of, my creativity, which I attempt to express through my painted and printed artwork, my photography, and sometimes even my cooking. Its focus is on exploring the beauty which can be discovered in life, and while this inevitably centres on the discoveries and experiences inherent in travel, it also attempts to revel in the allure of life closer to home, from kitchen creativity to local art exhibitions and restaurant reviews. But most of all, it tends to centre on the Norms themselves, a collection of funny little blobby creatures, who have only one arm, two eyes, and plenty of blue-glowing blobbyness. Although far from “normal” (their name in fact stems from a far more noble source, but more about that another day…), these little creatures are the main character of my homegrown illustrations, and will inevitably pop up when you are least expecting them.
As for me, well I’m an Artist (painter, printmaker, illustrator), a qualified Lawyer, and I suppose you could say a novice writer, cook, designer and photographer. I’m based in London, but spent several years living in the beautiful city of Palma de Mallorca in Spain, something which gave me a pronounced appreciation for the Mediterranean light which has never left me, and which I strive towards with every painting, musing and holiday. You can read more about the artistic side of things on my bio, or stay tuned to The Daily Norm for regular updates on what’s going on in the bizarre and beautiful world of my art.
Thank you for reading – every one of you makes The Daily Norm worth the write.

I’m a big fan, so much so that I’ve nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award!
Wow! That’s amazing thank you so much!! I didn’t know wordpress had awards… it’s wonderful to know that after only a few weeks of blogging, I am gaining fans. Your love of Paris is infectious… every time I read your blog it’s like being back there, so thank you for providing me with that link. The cafe is on me when I’m back in Paris!
Congratulations on your recent nomination by Jackie Paulson for the Hope Unites Globally HUG Award. To learn how to accept and share the award with others, please read the HUG Award Guidelines at http://ahopefortoday.com/2012/01/14/hope-unites-globally-hug-award-guidelines/.
I enjoy following your blog and nominated it – as I see it has already been by other readers who feel the same way – for a Versatile Blogger Award.
Wow thank you so much for this – I am truly honoured. Please keep on writing about Paris – it’s the only way I can live and breath the city while I’m away from it!
Love “The Sweet Potatoe Eaters”. Would like to repost it next to van Gogh’s in my “Parodies & Variations” blog (with credit & blog site). http://parodiesandvariations.wordpress.com/
Many thanks, please feel free to include the work in your blog! I’ve done quite a few parodies of famous art works so please feel free to use any of them! Will keep an eye out for your blog. PS Sorry for my delayed reply to this – i’ve been on holiday!
Thanks for following ‘Art, Writing, and Geeking Out’ and for liking my post. Your blog is fabulous. As my wife was reading over my shoulder, she named at least three friends who need to see this. We’ll be sharing your wonderful site. Thanks again.
Thank you both so much! I was equally excited to find your blog and to see some of the brilliant illustration and art work contained on it…I have a very childlike imagination and love the fact that amongst your works, you do illustrations for childrens’ books. It’s wonderful stuff and I can’t wait to keep a tag of your blog and to watch your creations unfurl! Many thanks again for your support and for spreading the word about my blog over there in the US!
Hey. Great blog!
Thank you for liking my work.
I nominated your fabulous blog for the Reader Appreciation Award!
Your urban garden is beautiful — and your blog is one of the most creative and unique that I have ever read. Really, well done — and very much deserving of the awards. Congrat on being Freshly Pressed! Cheers!
Wow that’s truly kind of you – it’s reactions like you that make all the hard work worth the effort. Thank you so much!
Amazing art! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by (and following) theusualbliss.com! I am planning on quoting you in an upcoming post. I’ll be sure to link back. Have a beautiful day!
Hi there – just wanted to say your blog made my day particularly your urban garden – well all of it actually. I’m a runner, injured and grumpy as hell. This is a little piece of heaven. Inspirational too. thanks:)
Thanks! And it makes my day knowing my post has been well received by someone else – makes it all worth it! Thanks so much.

Hi,I just nominated you for the “one lovely blog” award
Wow! Thank you!!
Hi,FYI – I finished an interview with CBC Magazine (Cleveland Business Connections) and they wanted to know how I got the H.U.G. Award, so I referred them to your site.
Hey Michele – many thanks! And huge congratulations on the interview – sounds exciting! Hope something really good comes out of it! Your blog surely deserves it.
Just a little note to say thank you following thisfloridalife. I appreciate all of my followers. I have to say I love your blog and find myself caught in European themed daydreams after reading your latest posts.
Hey don’t mention it – I love your blog for the same reason: because it offers an insight onto a sunny world across the Atlantic where I’d love to be but can only dream about while I’m sitting in raining London. Your support of my blog is massively appreciated. Just hope I can do yours as much justice!
I nominated you for a pile of awards… You deserve them!
Amazing! Thanks so much!!
I like your blog name. Looking forward to receiving your posts in my e-mail. ~ Wendy
Thanks! Really grateful that you’ve subscribed!
Hello Nicholas! I norminated, I mean nominated your blog for a Blog on Fire award. No need to call the fire fighters, just showing my love for your blog. You can check out it…
Hey that’s great news – thrilled to be a recipient of such a cool award! Thank you so much!
you have such an amazing creative sense…the artwork is phenomenal. do you have a book out yet ?
Wow, thank you! No, I don’t, although it’s been on my mind for sometime. I have at least 100 “Norm” sketches from the last year alone in addition to all the paintings etc so I have plenty of material. Now it’s a question of finding an elusive publisher, and market. If you have any tips, please let me know! Thanks for your comment 🙂
Super cool blog!!
Ahem, WHERE IS TODAY’S SUNDAY SUPPLEMENT?! Please and thank you.
Unfortunately the Daily Norm journalistic team have been out “on the field” today researching for future features. As a result a bumper Lichtenstein special will be kicking off the week ahead with a big “whaam”… Oh what puns. Meanwhile the Sunday Supplements waits somewhat downtrodden in the wings for new paintings to emerge. Could be some time…
Congrats! You’ve won an award. http://rejectreality101.com/2013/07/11/another-very-inspiring-blogger-award/
Your art is amazing! It reminds me of the style and creativity of Salvador Dali.
You’re so kind thank you.
Thanks for your very kind comment on my take on Bellini and Titian (Feast of the Gods II)!

And now I have your website I am going to thoroughly enjoy looking at more of your interpretative works! Many congratulations on the RA piece and all the rest!
