This is a blog about creative passion, about an escape to the aesthetic, and about an appreciation of the joie de vivre. It attempts to normalise the greater joys of living, and to share and explore the beauty all around us, and in so doing make beauty, rather than monotony, the daily norm. It is both an outlet for, and an expression of, my creativity, which I attempt to express through my painted and printed artwork, my photography, and sometimes even my cooking. Its focus is on exploring the beauty which can be discovered in life, and while this inevitably centres on the discoveries and experiences inherent in travel, it also attempts to revel in the allure of life closer to home, from kitchen creativity to local art exhibitions and restaurant reviews. But most of all, it tends to centre on the Norms themselves, a collection of funny little blobby creatures, who have only one arm, two eyes, and plenty of blue-glowing blobbyness. Although far from “normal” (their name in fact stems from a far more noble source, but more about that another day…), these little creatures are the main character of my homegrown illustrations, and will inevitably pop up when you are least expecting them.
As for me, well I’m an Artist (painter, printmaker, illustrator), a qualified Lawyer, and I suppose you could say a novice writer, cook, designer and photographer. I’m based in London, but spent several years living in the beautiful city of Palma de Mallorca in Spain, something which gave me a pronounced appreciation for the Mediterranean light which has never left me, and which I strive towards with every painting, musing and holiday. You can read more about the artistic side of things on my bio, or stay tuned to The Daily Norm for regular updates on what’s going on in the bizarre and beautiful world of my art.
Thank you for reading – every one of you makes The Daily Norm worth the write.
