2011: My year in photos
It’s the last day of 2011, and for my second review of the year that’s almost behind us, I’ve looked back on all the photos I’ve taken this year and selected a few of my favourites. In this way, I can share with you my year. It’s been a pretty good year for me in some ways – trips to Paris, Mallorca, Madrid and Marbella as well as Liverpool and Cornwall in England. All made for some inspirational scenes which begged to be captured on my camera. But so to does home continue to inspire, the autumnal glow of nearby Clapham Common and Richmond Park offering stimulating riches with which the lens so easily engages. So please enjoy the photos I have set out and in the meantime I trust that all the readers of The Daily Norm will enjoy a superb New Year’s Eve and have a very prosperous 2012. My little online paper has only been running a short while, but I am truly appreciative of all the support garnered so far. Please continue to drop in on my Norm-world in 2012 and help to spread all things artistic, aesthetic and beautiful around the globe. Happy New Year!

Hey it comes automatically with my theme which is Linen. Many thanks for the compliment!
such a lovely blog of photo’s and a year of 2011in review Display. Congrats!
Your photos look great! I posted my year in photos too!
2011 looked to be a lovely, adventurous year for you! thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you in 2012.
Excellent photos. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, you are really beautiful shots there. I can’t list my favorites because it would take too long. What kind of camera do you use? I think that my pictures are not just awful because of my camera, it’s also because I don’t go sightseeing or visiting all these gorgeous places. Nice job in 2011. Hope 2012 is even better. Congrats on FP!
Thanks!! I used a NIKON digital SLR for a few of them, but surprisingly the majority are taken on a standard Sony Cybershot… just a small pocket camera, but I’ve always found Cybershots to be excellent, especially with close up stuff. But yes, it certainly does help to see some great places… Hopefully 2012 will bear fruit too!
i work with exactly the same combination: Nikon D90 and a great little Cybershot as my back-up/quick grab. Have to say I liked my first Sony better, though, because my newer one seems to struggle with close up quality you were talking about. Anyway, your site is fun; I’m just building mine to show my photos and hope it’s as fun to peruse as yours. 🙂
Many thanks! Yeah, I know what you mean with the Cybershot… sometimes I find that you have to be fully zoomed out for a good close up, but that means that you have to hold the camera so close to the object that it can be a problem with shadows. Also if you hold it TOO close it blurs. Still, nothing’s perfect and my Nikon currently has a big piece of fluff somewhere on the lens I can’t get off! Grrr. Thanks a lot for your comments and for dropping by… look forward to seeing your blog as it gets established!
Wow — what incredible memories you have from the year — all well documented!
My fave is the Christmas photo … so beautiful…
Thank you for sharing!

Great collection of photographs. Each photograph is so beautiful. Great post.
Lovely photos. My favorites…the marsh and the mushroom!

Really loving some of your shots! The town of Ojen, the coast of Mallorca, the fishing at Soller, and the Mushroom in Richmond Pk. Also, very wise choice to photograph Magaluf from afar, some of the wildlife are a serious health risk…
Haha wise indeed… we drove within a few metres of Magaluf… it was a dangerous choice of road. Many thanks for the comment!

Thanks for sharing! Particularly like the lone leaf in the rain.
Wonderful! 🙂 Looking forward to reading more in 2012!
You have a pretty good sense of composition, although on occasion you center your subject in the frame (Tram and Autumn Leaf to be specific). In general, you use color and shape to create some outstanding compositions (El Escorial palace and the Madrid streetlamps are very nicely designed).
It is really a great opportunity to travel and make photographs as a way of interpreting and understanding the place, people, and culture you are visiting. How does your experience abroad impact your photography when you return home? Do you look at your own environment differently?
Many thanks! To be honest I don’t really see myself as a photographer and certainly don’t compose my photos from any kind of professional basis – it’s just my artistic eye which guides me. My time abroad always makes me feel slightly down when I get home, like most people, but having a photographic, artistic and written record of my time away gives so much more value to the experience. Having said all that, we are all surrounded by inspirational sights, even on our own home turf. It’s the way light changes, weather effects, the seasons that interests me the most, and those changes occur everywhere. Thanks for stopping by and please keep in touch with the Daily Norm!
You have a great eye, my friend! You have revived the traveling itch that can only be cured with a foreign language phrase book and backpack!
How lucky you are to have seen such beauty! Remarkable photos and, I hope, even more remarkable stories to accompany them. Best to you in 2012!
Beautiful is the eye that sees beauty in the ordinary and the one-time-special. Thanks!
Very natural and beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing..

Love your pics, especially the ones of Paris, which are so haunting and beautiful. I’ve been living in Europe for over two years now and have so many pictures that it seems a waste to just keep them on my computer. Your photos are so fantastic…you should consider selling prints!
I agree, and sharing my favourite photos online has made taking and collecting photos so rewarding. You should definitely do the same!
Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing!
Beautiful work. Maybe the kick start I need to get the ball rolling in 2012 for my own blog.
Sarah

Stunning…. Beautiful
Very nice looking blog, great job
Love the classic Metro picture, has great depth to it. I’m a big fan of Paris, and I find it is one of the most photogenic cities I’ve ever visited – used 2 rolls of 36 films when I was there for a weekend in December.
Love your pictures
Many thanks. Paris is stunning – I’ve been there a lot and every time I feel my fingers itching to photograph at every corner! Thanks for stopping by.
